Golden Chai Latte
Anti-inflammatory, Immune-boosting, Vegetarian/Vegan
SERVES 2 / PREP TIME: 2 MINUTES / COOK TIME: 3 MINUTES
Made with healthy fats, and spices like cinnamon, ginger, and clove, this Golden Chai Latte is a great way to get your morning started with a little caffeine and an anti-inflammatory boost. The spices used are all powerful immune boosters and cinnamon and clove help regulate blood sugar. Turmeric is best absorbed by the body when combined with fat, making this latte a perfect way to get the powerful anti-inflammatory in your diet.
1/8 teaspoon ground clove
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or 1/2 inch piece of ginger
1 teaspoon honey, or other AIP approved sweetener (optional)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon black tea, like Assam
2 scoops/servings grass-fed/finished collagen peptides, like Vital Proteins (optional)
8 oz coconut milk (with no gums or carrageenan)
16 oz water, brought to a boil
Add the black tea and fresh ginger, if using, to the boiling water and steep for 3 minutes (heat off).
Remove or strain tea and combine in blender with the coconut milk and other ingredients.
Blend for at least 30 seconds.
Make Ahead Tip: If using ground ginger, make a spice blend scaling up the same proportions of clove, cinnamon and ginger and mix well to have on hand, using a slightly heaping teaspoon of the blend when you make your latte.
Ingredient Tips: MCT oil derived from coconuts could be added with, or instead of, the coconut oil to boost ketone production but should be consumed in smaller quantities to start if you are not already used to it. Kia recommends to stop using MCT by 3pm because it’s energizing and can interrupt sleep if consumed late in the day.
Sleep Tip: Remove the tea and coconut oil and this golden milk latte could improve your sleep thanks to the nourishing and gut soothing ingredients.
